5 Fairly Easy Steps to Accomplishing any Marketing Goal
There are a set number of hours in the week, and you’ve got maybe 186 hours of waking time a week to allocate. The fact is, most of us start work on some blog or social media video, get a call or appointment and forget to go back to it. (That’s why some content writers are still in business even in 2025, especially ones who can use the CMS to post it for you).
Going now to your content marketing tasks, which activities are the most important for leverage? Focus on these first.
Accomplishing any Marketing Goal is just five (5) fairly easy steps away:
- Set your goals in reverse. Pick a definite date of completion and then work backward. Set a goal for the end of the month and then set short term milestones for each day through to the end. This way, the short-term goals you set help you move one step closer to accomplishing your long-term goal. Don’t forget to include personal or professional development goals. I use Skillshare for training.
- Keep a calendar – Take the goal you set for the end of the month and write that goal on the last day of the month. Then write down the short term goals for each day through the end of the month. Yes, it’s better if you write it on a calendar than go all-digital, unless that digital calendar keeps reminding you every day!
- One at a time – Don’t try to cram everything into one day. If you try to post your blogs, update your LinkedIn and comment, write cold emails, participate in business groups, and submit articles to magazines all in one day, you’ll go mad and burn out. Instead, focus on one or two things every day and then cross it off. Mark ‘CM’ on the calendar on the days you complete the scheduled tasks. (CM = Content Marketing!)
- Set a time limit – Perhaps aim for 90 minutes per day. By limiting the time spent and focusing on two tasks every day, you’ll build momentum. Undoubtedly, with this consistent effort, you’ll increase your success rate.
I find 90 minutes is a good number; I can concentrate that long on one thing with a focus break in the middle; it helps me feel a sense of achievement as I tick it off. Plus, some studies show that our attention drops off at about 50 minutes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pick the task back up after that needed cup of chai.
5. Beware the shiny spoon – Despite those fancy AI apps calling you, keep to your schedule and proven tools. Switching things up too often can put paid to success from consistency.
With a written plan, it will make achieving your goals that much easier. At the end of the month, when you see how many CM tasks you’ve ticked off on the calendar, you’ll feel amazing.
By implementing the Five Easy Steps to Accomplishing any Marketing Goal, you’ll find yourself making progress, building confidence and reaching your long-term business goals.
Another tip, you can get desktop calendars on sale at this time, being July and the start of a financial year. They are cheap as chips.
